The X platform has introduced a new design change that prevents users from completely leaving the platform by clicking on external links. One of the biggest concerns for social media platforms was that users were being forced out of the app by these links, which would hurt engagement rates. The X software team took a step to address this issue and revamped external links.
X Offers a Significant Innovation
Previously, clicking an external link in an X post would open the link in a default browser page, which would take up the entire X app. Many users criticized this because it gave the impression of leaving the app entirely.
X has completely changed the experience with the new design. Now, when a user clicks a link, the original post is moved to the bottom of the screen. The content of the link is consumed in a new window positioned just above the post. The sharing buttons remain on the screen while this window opens. When the user pulls down the window containing the content, the original post reappears.
This new design aims to keep the user on the platform. It is also noted that the algorithm is more capable of scanning the content. The X team has launched the new external link design, and this feature will be available to all users, region by region. This marks the end of the browser page that completely occupies the app.
